Microsoft has opened the application code Astronomical Worldwide Telescope (WWT) Microsoft has announced the opening of the source code of their software for astronomy - Worldwide Telescope (WWT).
Worldwide Telescope project was initiated by researchers from Microsoft Research with the assistance of experts from various universities and organizations (Caltech, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, University of Chicago, NASA) in 2007. This software is designed for the "unified contextual visualization of the universe." To accomplish this, use images from ground and space telescopes. Tool has five modes of viewing data: Earth, Sky, Planet, Panoramas and the solar system.
The source code of Worldwide Telescope is published under a free MIT license on GitHub behalf organizatsii.NET Foundation. The main project is based on the .NET code and is intended to run under Windows, but as a part of the repository have been published and web-client written in HTML5.
